# Connections overview

> Connect the tools your team already uses so your agents work from real context, not a blank slate.

Connections are the external tools and apps your agents read from. Hops integrates with **500+ apps** across productivity, developer tools, CRM, communication, analytics, design, databases, and more, powered by the Pipedream integration catalog. The more relevant tools you connect, the less your team re-explains the same context every session.

## What connections do

When you connect a tool, your agents can:

* Read docs, threads, records, and data from that tool
* Surface relevant information without being told where to look
* Cite what they used so you know exactly where an answer came from
* Hand off context between agents and teammates with everything attached

Your team doesn't paste. Your agents find.

## Types of connections

| Type | Examples |
| ----------------------- | --------------------------------------------------- |
| **Productivity & docs** | Google Drive, Notion, Confluence, SharePoint |
| **Communication** | Slack, Microsoft Teams, email |
| **CRM & sales** | Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive |
| **Project management** | Linear, Jira, Asana, ClickUp |
| **Support** | Zendesk, Intercom, Front |
| **Finance** | QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite |
| **Custom** | Databases, APIs, internal tools via the marketplace |

## How connections work across agents

**Workspace (default) connections** are available to the **default Hops agent** and the **personal agent** automatically. Connect them from **Settings**, then **Connections**. Any tool you connect at the workspace level is immediately accessible to both of these agents.

**Custom agent connections** let you give each custom agent its own set of app connections. A sales agent might connect to your CRM, while a marketing agent connects to your analytics and CMS. Each custom agent only sees the tools you've specifically connected to it. This gives you fine-grained control over what each agent can access.

**Personal connections** are yours only: your calendar, personal email, private drive. Only your personal agent can read them. Set them up in your personal connection settings.

## Security

Your data stays yours. Hops reads from connected tools with the same permissions your account has. It doesn't get elevated access. You can review and revoke any connection at any time.

See [Agent Permissions](/agents/agent-permissions) for how to control what each agent can do with what it reads.
